Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) is a government-owned organization established on November 26, 1931, under the Memorandum and Articles of Association. Originally known as Tanganyika Electric Supply Company Limited, TANESCO has the responsibility of generating, purchasing, transmitting, distributing, and selling electricity to the mainland of Tanzania. It also supplies bulk power to the Zanzibar Electricity Corporation (ZECO), which further distributes it to the public on the islands of Unguja and Pemba.
