Hon. Lanelle congratulates all the students on their successful examination results, despite challenges and the short academic year. The positive outcomes can be attributed to their hard work and the support they received from parents, guardians, and teaching staff at our schools throughout the country.
In the Year 11 cohort, a noteworthy achievement is seen with students attaining and exceeding the minimum subject score of 53 (range 53-100). The percentage values for the 2023 cohort, highlighting those who did not pass per exam paper, signify the portion of Year 11 students achieving subject scores below 53. Particularly impressive performances are observed in Science and Home Economics.
Moving to Year 12, the highest percentage of candidates achieving at and above the minimum subject final score is in Computer Studies, Design Technology, and Accounting. On the flip side, History and Geography exhibit the smallest percentage of the cohort achieving at and above the minimum. Notably, just over 50 percent of the cohort is achieving at and above the minimum in the Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Agriculture, and Physics), indicating a strong interest in Science at Year 12 despite challenges in accessing Science teaching resources in schools.
The ministry recognizes the ongoing challenge of access to secondary education, emphasizing the need for a collective effort from stakeholders to ensure increased access for our children to complete secondary education.
The transition rate to Year 13 has remained steady at around 17-18% for the third consecutive year. This is attributed to the limited availability of space in our senior secondary schools and does not fully reflect the outstanding capabilities of our senior secondary students across all schools.
Behind every set of examination results, there lies a personal story of hard work, commitment, and perseverance at all ability levels. The Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development (MEHRD), is eager to celebrate these individual successes and acknowledges the progress made by all students. These results now pave the way for our students to take the next step in their educational endeavors.
