All applicants must meet the following requirements
- Must be a needy Malawian (with national ID) admitted into a generic degree program; at a fully accredited institution public or private.
- Must have six credits in MSCE or its equivalent.
- For a continuing beneficiary student, Must have passed the examinations necessary to enable him/her to advance to the next year or stage of study.
- Must be a student not fully funded by other organizations.
- Must not have attended an elite secondary or high school unless there is evidence demonstrating neediness.
- Must have verifiable good conduct and commitment to studies.
- Must be committed to paying back the loan.
